Consultation on proposals for a bovine TB strategy in Northern Ireland

DAERA has published a consultation on proposals for a bovine TB strategy in Northern Ireland. The consultation is seeking views on the strategy, which includes a proposal to cull badgers in the province. You can view the consultation document here:

The Northern Ireland Badger Group will be submitting a robust response. We are also urging anyone opposed to badger culling to submit a response to the consultation, which closes on 1st February 2018.

Four years of badger culls in England have failed to make any difference to bovine TB in cattle.1 There is no evidence that decades of badger culling has contributed to lower bovine TB levels in the Republic of Ireland.2

The Northern Ireland Badger Group will continue to oppose the introduction of a badger cull as part of any bovine TB strategy in Northern Ireland.
